Explanation

A collage of two photos, one of Former PM Manmohan Singh bowing down his head at the G20 summit held in France in 2011 and the other of PM Modi looking at US President Joe Biden at the G20 summit held at Indonesia in 2022 is shared with a claim that Modi does not hide his face unlike Manmohan Singh but talks with eye contact. The posts with such claims can be seen here, here, here, and here.

What is the truth?

When searching for the first image, it is found that Manmohan Singh did not bow his head down throughout the summit hiding his face but it was the moment when the photo was captured. Many photos and videos of the then PM Manmohan Singh during the G20 summit held in France in 2011 are found with further search revealing that he did not hide his face.

A Youtube channel ‘EURACTIV’ published a video titled ‘G20 Cannes Group Photo (Raw Video)’ on 4, November 2011. This video is the raw footage of capturing the group photo of leaders at G20 summit as mentioned in the title.

Another image of the group photo where Manmohan Singh is facing forward can be seen on the ‘TERMODiZAYN’ website.

There are several other photos and videos taken during the G20 summit clarifying that Manmohan Singh did not hide his face but rather had conversations with other world leaders.

And the viral image shared is also a real image where the first photo was just captured at the moment when Manmohan Singh was facing downward. Video screen grabs from NDTV news shows that Manmohan Singh did not hide his face but rather interacted with other leaders.

Conclusion

The group photo taken at the G20 summit in 2011 in France where Manmohan Singh is seen facing downward is shared comparing it with an image of PM Modi that he is not hiding his face, unlike Manmohan Singh. But we found the claim to be misleading as the other photos and videos taken at the summit show Manmohan Singh interacting with others but not hiding his face. Moreover, the photo was taken at the moment when he was facing downwards.
