This video clip is shared with an insinuated claim that PM Modi neither congratulated Pat Cummins nor shook his hands. Many on social media are claiming that Modi should have stayed back to congratulate Pat Cummins in person and to shake his hand. Some of the posts carrying this video clip can be seen here and here.
What is the truth?
When searching with relevant keywords we found that the video is clipped right after Modi shakes hands with Pat Cummins and handed over the trophy along with the Australian deputy PM. Hindustan Times article is found carrying an image while reporting the highlights of the World Cup final match. This image shows Modi holding Pat Cummins’s hand when he is holding the trophy in his other hand. This clarifies that the viral video clip was taken after this incident.
When searching for the extended version of the video, we found a couple of videos on YouTube. One video shows Pat Cummins’s entry to the stage at 1:15 minutes timestamp and the other at 1:40 minutes. Both show the same incident recorded at different angles. It is found that Modi and Richard Marles shook hands with Pat Cummins after his entry, handed over the trophy to him, and shook hands again before leaving the stage.

From these videos, it is evident that PM Modi shook Pat Cummins’ hands and congratulated him and the Australian team members after leaving the stage. Pat Cummins was waiting for his teammates on the stage, as they were shaking hands with PM Modi before joining him on stage momentarily.
