Explanation

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is being held in Qatar from 20, November 2022. An image of a bag with PM Modi’s picture along with the FIFA World Cup logo taken in the football stadium is viral on social media. This image was shared with the ‘My PM (Modi) My Pride’ quote on social media by Wasim Khan, BJP Minority Morcha President, Mumbai. Following this, it got viral and some of the posts can be seen here, here, and here.

When searching for the keywords ‘gift bag at World Cup stadium’, The U.S Sun’ article dated 21, November 2022 titled ‘BAG OF THE NET Inside incredible gift bag given to fans at World Cup stadiums with football, flags, and bottle of PERFUME’ mentions that the fans that attended the opening ceremony of World Cup 2022 received an extra special gift from the host country Qatar. But the image of the bag did not have the picture of Modi in it.

When searching for similar tweets, a tweet by ‘Nationalist – Dankapati’ dated 22, November 2022 is found with the set of pictures from the stadium which also have the original version of the viral picture. It is captioned as ‘If you want to see the hospitality, then look at Qatar. Mushk and Oud were gifted to the guests and visitors, setting an example of hospitality that whites would never forget”.

When the viral image is searched with Google lens, it yielded four results of the original image and none of them had PM Modi’s image in it.

A website ‘gomhuriaonline’ posted the original image on 20, November 2022 which also did not have PM Modi’s image on it.

Conclusion

It is found that PM Modi’s picture is added to the original picture of a gift bag given at the opening ceremony of World Cup 2022 in Qatar using photoshop and is being shared on social media.
