The upcoming movie ‘Pathaan’ that stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone gained huge controversy over the colour of the outfit used by Deepika Padukone on one of the songs ‘Besharam Rang’ in the movie. Narottam Mishra, a BJP Minister seeks to ban the movie if the colour of the outfit is not changed. Posts with the hashtag ‘boycott pathaan’ were circulated on Twitter.

Meanwhile, a video clip of PM Modi where he is seen saying (roughly translated), “I am the son of Pathan, and I speak the truth and behave the same”, is shared with the claim that Modi is supporting Shah Rukh Khan and his movie Pathaan against all odds. Posts with such a claim can be seen here, here and here.

This video clip was shared since 2019 on Twitter. It was also shared by Nagma, actress, and VP of Mumbai Congress. Some of the other posts can be seen here and here.

What is the truth?

When reverse-searching the keyframes of the video, the original video was found published on the NDTV Youtube channel on 23, February 2019 with the title – On Pulwama, PM Modi’s Dare For Imran Khan, “Son Of A Pathan”.

The viral video is clipped from 1.25 minutes of this video. But the unclipped video shows him saying that when he contacted Imran Khan to congratulate him on becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, he asks Imran Kahn to join hands in fighting against poverty and illiteracy. And in response to that Imran Khan said: “Modiji, I’m the son of Pathan, I speak the truth and behave the same”.

NDTV also tweeted the news video related to the video clip on 23, February 2019 mentioning Imran Khan as the ‘Son of Pathan’.

The speech related to the viral video clip can be seen from 59.45 minutes in a video uploaded by Bharatiya Janata Party Youtube channel on 23, February 2019 with the title “PM Narendra Modi addresses a public meeting in Tonk, Rajasthan”.

It is found that an old video where Modi is seen quoting the lines mentioned by Imran Khan as he is the son of Pathan is clipped and shared since 2019. This clipped version of the video is shared to claim that Modi supports Shah Rukh Khan and his movie Pathaan which is found to be fake.
