“Saffron umbrella for traffic police to welcome Modi’s arrival!”, AIADMK Kanchipuram District IT-Wing District Secretary Satish Shankar has posted this picture. Moreover, supporters of political parties, including the BJP and Naam Tamilar, have been commenting on the police for wearing saffron umbrellas.
What is the truth?
Photographs of Tamil Nadu policemen holding umbrellas are taken in front of the Avadi Commissioner’s office. However, the photos were not posted on the Twitter page of the Avadi commissioner’s office.
These umbrellas seemed to be donated to the traffic police by an organization and could be seen with the names and logos printed on the umbrella.
While searching for photos that are going viral, Piyush Manush posted on his Facebook page on May 22 mentioning Avadi Commissioner Sandeep Rathore and commenting on the photos of traffic policemen with umbrellas.
Looking at the photos above, the name and logo of the umbrella could be seen, including “Tirumala TMT” and “Rotary Club”. All umbrellas feature the company name and logo.
In search of this, we found that it is Prakash Ferrous Industries Pvt. LTD – PFI Tirumala, a steel company’s logo. Umbrellas donated to traffic police are in the colour used by the company.
When inquired about the viral photos at Avadi Police Station, he said, “These are the photos taken 10 days ago at the Avadi Commissioner’s office. These were donated. However, the colour of the umbrella caused controversy and it was decided not to use the umbrella. The commissioner has removed that post as well”.
Conclusion
The information that the Tamil Nadu government has provided saffron coloured umbrellas to the traffic police to welcome Prime Minister Modi is false. The viral photos can be identified as umbrellas donated to traffic police in Avadi.
