Morarji Desai the former CM of erstwhile Bombay State and later the PM of India dances with such flourish which is quite unbelievable. He always presented himself as a stiff, rigid no nonsense person

Explanation

A video claiming that Morarji Desai was playing garba (dandiya some claims) in 1962 is viral on social media including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The video is being shared with the same claim since 2018 and this year is not an exception.

What is the truth?

When searching the keyframes of the video to find the source, ‘DeshGujarat’ article dated 22, October 2022, titled ‘Raas dance viral video in name of Morarji Desai is fake; it hasn’t Morarji Desai in it’ is found.

The article says they have contacted Morarji Desai’s great-grandson Madhukeshwar Desai who disproved the claim and Late Kunvarji Narshi Lodaya’s son Chandrakant Lodaya who identified his family members in the video.

The Former Prime Minister is not in the video and the people seen playing Dandiya in the video are Late Kunvarji Narshi Lodaya and his brother Mulji Narshi Shah.

A social media post also claims that Former Prime Ministers Lal Bahadur Shastri and Morarji Desai are seen playing, which is untrue.

This viral video can be seen being shared in October every year during Navratri since 2018 despite being fact-checked by our fellow fact-checkers every year.

Conclusion

It is not Former Prime Ministers Lal Bahadur Shastri or Morarji Desai playing Dandiya or Garba during Navratri as claimed.
