A 1-minute 46-second video is circulated on social media claiming that an old man was attacked by Muslim youths for shouting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Je’ in public. In the video we can see an elderly man wearing rose pajamas and getting beaten by some young men. This same post was also shared by many other users with similar claims can be seen here and here. Come, let’s check how much truth the story holds.

What’s the truth?
We started our research with keyframes of the viral video where the old man was assaulted, it revealed that the issue was sparked by Hothchand Sindhi’s public altercation in October 2019.
A person has posted a video taken from a different angle on his Twitter that the incident took place at Azad Chowk in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. In the video, the elderly man can be seen being loaded into a vehicle by the police after the incident. And you can see the name of the store called ‘Lady Bag Shopee’ in it. By searching with this, we were able to confirm that the area is in Rajasthan.

Also, in search of this, BJP’s Manjinder Singh Sirsa has recorded the entire video of the incident on his Facebook page. In the beginning the old man talks about the BJP in derogatory terms. Then he chants Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
In Manjinder Singh’s post on this video, he tagged the Rajasthan Police saying, ‘An old man was brutally assaulted in the Azad Chowk market in Bhilwara, Rajasthan’.
And on October 21, 2019, on his Twitter page, ‘This incident took place on 15.10.2019 in Bhilwara area. An old man named Hodchand was affected. The five accused have been identified as Mulla Sindhi (39), Hemant Ramchandra Nathani (45), Bhagwan Das Sindhi (37), Manjoor Shaikh (31), and Irfan Shaikh (34), according to a police report.

Apart from that, it was mentioned in the report that Hotchand, the old man who had been attacked, had been harassing passers-by and had previously been in jail for murdering his wife.
The website vishvasnews has obtained a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) regarding the same video that went viral in 2019. Moreover, nowhere is it mentioned that the old man was attacked for saying ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.
Also, we came to know that the attackers were not only Muslims but also people from other religions were also there in the group.
Conclusion:
In our search, the report that an old man was attacked by Muslim youths for chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai is not true. He has been assaulted by bystanders after hurling insults at others in public. It is known that among the attackers are not only Muslims but also people of other religions.
