Videos from Jitendra Awhad’s past are circulated, connecting to his recent comments about Lord Ram

The viral video is a combination of two separate videos from different timelines shared as recent. This video has nothing to do with his recent remarks of Lord Ram.

The people beating up NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad for his disrespectful comments on Shri Ram would be voting for this election. He just lost them to the BJP. And these people are saying they’ll beat Modi. In your dreams, Jitya.

Recently, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad’s comment came ahead of the grand consecration of the new Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya later this month. He said, “Lord Ram was a non-vegetarian. Lord Ram belongs to us, Bahujans. He used to hunt and eat animals. He is a Bahujan. They are trying to make everyone a vegetarian by giving Lord Ram’s example. But Lord Ram was not a vegetarian, he was a non-vegetarian. A person who has stayed in the forest for 14 years—where will he go to find vegetarian food?” Mr Awhad said, referring to the years Lord Ram spent in the forests in the Hindu epic Ramayana. This statement of his has sparked a massive controversy.

In this instance, the 17-second video shows a crowd of people fighting, and the scene appears to be in total disarray. In addition, a Hindi song is playing in the background while we hear someone conversing in Kannada. This post is shared with a claim stating that “The people beating up NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad for his disrespectful comments on Shri Ram.” You can view a similar claim here.

What’s the truth?

Upon closer inspection, we discovered that the widely shared video is two independent clips combined into one. The viral video’s first segment depicts the Sangli, Maharashtra, incident. Here, at Awhad’s program, an altercation started between two groups.

Using this as a hint, we conducted a search using pertinent keywords, which brought us to a July 20, 2015, YouTube video from Zee 24 Taas. The headline on the screen appeared to be read in Marathi, translated to English as “Attempts to attack Jitendra Awhad.”

According to the reports, Awhad allegedly made disparaging remarks about renowned historian Babasaheb Purandare during the function and called for the revocation of his esteemed Maharashtra Bhushan award. Outraged by these remarks, a few Shivpratishthan Sangathan members stormed the stage to smash Jitendra Awhad. Thus, a brawl broke out between Awhad’s party attendants and the other group.

Additionally, this same incident was also covered by India Today, India TV, and Times of India.

When we performed a Google reverse image search on the second part of the viral video, which featured Jitendra Awhad walking in the rain, we discovered that the identical video had been posted on his official YouTube channel on November 27, 2023.

This also precedes his most recent contentious remark about Lord Ram on 3 January.

All the above information clarifies that the viral video about NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad is a combination of two separate videos from two different timelines.

Thus, we conclude that the video stating NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad got beaten up by people for his disrespectful comments on Shri Ram is completely false. In reality, the viral video is predated and has no links to his recent controversial talk about Lord Ram.
