A viral video purportedly on X (formerly Twitter) is shared with the captions “looks at the condition of Hindus in Pakistan. A group of 12 islamists forcefully abducted a 13-year-old girl, and when a group of Hindus came to save the girl, the group of Islamic men thrashed the Hindu group, pushed the Hindu women mercilessly on the road, and told the Hindu group not to intervene until everyone “does it” (r@ape her).”

We can see in the 1:58 viral video a group of men wearing kurta- pajamas with sticks on their hands. From there, one man pushed the women on the road, and then the women started shouting at the group of men, and suddenly two to three men from the group started thrashing the women who were all standing there. Later, a man from the group on the women’s side stopped the fight.

A similar viral claim was also posted by Allahabad High Court senior advocate Akhilesh Tripathi on February 19, 2024.

This viral video, widely retweeted and shared by right-wing supporters, can be seen here, here, here, here, and here.

What is the Truth?

We ran a keyword search and found the same viral video was shared on October 20, 2023. During that time, Sindh Police also tweeted, “This incident took place on October 29, 2023, at Kohli Daro, Umarkot, Umerkot, Sindh, Pakistan. Both parties belong to the Kohli community. The matter pertains to a plot. The plot is government property, and both parties are claiming the plot. On Sunday, a few women tried to enter the house of Popat Kohli, and he and his sons became aggressive and brutally attacked women with sticks.

The Wheel of Law immediately came into motion. A FIR has been registered against Popat Kohli and his sons without delay. The police are proactive, an investigation is underway, and 100% merit will be ensured.”

Therefore, according to Sindh Police, we found that no religious fight took place, and no 13-year-old girl was abducted and raped. Actually, both the families from the similar Kohli community were fighting and claiming ownership of the government-owned site.

It is found that the video shows both parties belonging to the same community and were fighting for a government-owned site, which has been falsely given a communal colour.
