Explanation

In the forty-three-second clip, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, the son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, is heard speaking into a microphone. Even though his voice appears sluggish and awkward, we can listen to what he’s saying.

The video has an infographic stating, “The people of Bihar have been handed a jhunjhuna(rattle).” This post is shared with a claim stating, “The country liquor seems to have stuck in his throat .. lousy buggers.. these junkies are our representatives.” You can see similar claim posts here and here.

What’s the truth?

We searched for pertinent terms to begin our inquiry, such as “Tejaswi Prasad’s speech about cabinet minister sharing.” Using the keyframes from the popular film, we then took a closer look and saw the Republic of India’s logo. This took us to the original video of the same clip from June 11, 2024. The video has been uploaded under the title “What did Tejashwi Yadav say while taunting on ministry sharing?” Comparing this video to the viral footage, it’s interesting to note that his voice is well-audible and distinct here.

In the video, Tejaswi says, “I have just landed now, and the way the departments have been distributed. although, it is the prime minister, who is given which department. The work should be done in any department. But it was because of Bihar that you became the Prime Minister and when the ministry was given to the people of Bihar, it felt like a rattling toy was handed over from somewhere.” Also, it seems that he is coming out of the airport while talking with the reporters.

Using this as a cue, we discovered another similar video, which the ANI had uploaded on June 11, 2024, along with the description, “Jhunjhuna thamaya gaya…”: Tejashwi Yadav’s dig at PM Modi on Bihar leader’s cabinet portfolios.” He sounds quite coherent and non-sluggish when he speaks here too.

All of the aforementioned material makes it clear that Tejaswi Prasad Yadav’s viral video has been manipulated by slowing down the audio and sharing it with false narratives.

Conclusion:

We, therefore, conclude that the widely circulated rumor that RJD leader Tejaswi Prasad Yadav is intoxicated and speaking into the microphone is false. In actuality, the audio in the viral video was edited to sound significantly slower, giving the impression that he was drugged.
