Explanation

A piece of information is being circulated on social media that the newly elected President of India, Draupadi Murmu, has banned non-vegetarian food in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

What is the truth?

“60 people from Murmu’s home district, invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the President. Lunch was arranged for them at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Asked about the menu of the lunch, the participants said it was purely vegetarian as the President does not eat non-vegetarian food, not even garlic and onion”, reported the Business Standard on July 27.

But there is no news or announcement that Draupadi Murmu has banned non-vegetarian food in the Rashtrapati Bhawan. If such an order was issued, it would have become a major debate in the political arena.

On further investigation, “The claim that there is a full ban on any kind of non-vegetarian feast or drink in Rashtrapati Bhawan is fake, no such changes have been made”, PIB Fact Check has posted on Twitter.
