Explanation

The proxy war between Israel and Iran intensified in 2024 and turned into a direct confrontation between the two nations. Several senior Iranian officials were killed when Israel bombed the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1. On April 13, Iran and its allies retaliated by attacking inside Israel.

This first claim includes a 43-second video in which multiple drones are seen flying in the sky while illuminated. A few of the drones are shot, exploding midair. Through a glass window in a room, we were able to see that this scene was recorded from a high-rise building. This post is shared with a claim stating that “Israel got the iron dome, those drones aren’t fucking with that anti-defense, it’s the best in the world.” You can view related claim posts here and here.

A drone that resembles an airplane-like toy gets caught in an electrical power line in a 27-second video featured in the second claim. This post is shared with a claim stating that “Iran sent a drone to Israel and it got stuck in electrical power lines in Iraq.” You can view similar claim posts here and here.

What’s the truth?

Fact-Check: 1

We started our analysis with a relevant keyword search and keyframes of the viral video on Google and found a YouTube video by The Economic Times.

The video is captioned “Israel’s Iron Dome in Action: Here’s how the protection cover intercepts, takes down Hamas’ missiles” and is posted on October 17, 2023. When we looked into the description box it read, “Israel’s Iron Dome stands as a testament to innovation and ingenuity in the realm of missile defense. Here is a video compilation of Israel’s creative self-defense system.” With a running time of about two minutes and forty-seven seconds, this video is a little long. Approximately one minute and thirty-six seconds into the video, we were able to view the viral segment.

All of this data clarifies that the widely shared video is not as recent as the viral claim suggests; rather, it is an old clip from October 2023 from the Israel-Hamas war.

Fact-Check:2

Our investigation began with a simple reverse image procedure that brought us to a February 2024 tweet. The post is captioned “This drone march stuck to the power lines reminds me of the marches of the factions and militias that fall over the heads of civilians and around embassies and fail to reach their goals.”

This indicates that the film is outdated and was accessible online before the current conflict between Israel and Iran.

Conclusion:

We therefore conclude that the two widely circulated allegations regarding drones and the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel are false and misleading. Actually, both of the videos were posted on social media before this war and are quite old.
