Explanation

A lot of videos and images are being shared with a claim that they are from the recent travel to the PET exam centres in Uttar Pradesh. A few of such claims can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

What is the truth?

Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSC) conducted Uttar Pradesh Preliminary Eligibility Test (UPPET) for 37.58 lakh candidates in four slots two each on 15th and 16th October 2022.

The social media platforms are flooded with videos and images claiming that candidates struggle to reach the exam centres due to the massive crowd.

Though the information is true, several videos spread are irrelevant old videos. We checked a few videos and found them to be fake. Our fact-checks are listed below.

Claim 1

When reverse-searching the keyframes of this video, it is found that the video was posted in Feb 2018 on the ‘Neeraj Anand’ Youtube channel. Major videos posted on this channel are of train travel.

Claim 2

When the keyframes of this video are reverse searched, the viral video was found on the ‘Navin Poojary’ Youtube channel published in March 2016 mentioning it as ‘Mumbai local crowd’. It is to be noted that this video was viral in 2021 with another claim.

‘Info Uttar Pradesh Fact Check’ official Twitter account tweeted that these two videos are fake. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared one of these fake videos each and deleted it later.

Claim 3

When reverse searching the keyframes from this video, scenes matching from this video can be seen on a post of ‘New TR NEWS Agency’ dated 5, September 2021 on its Facebook page.

With further search we found that this video was also found on a Youtube channel ‘Beautiful places to see’. The video was posted in June 2018.

Claim 4

When this image is searched with Google Lens, it was published on the ‘avax.news’ website mentioning that the image was captured in February 2016.

Claim 5

When reverse-searching the keyframes of this video, several websites were seen with this video from the year 2018. A few websites including Imgur have posted a gif video of the viral clip. Reddit website published the full video.

Claim 6

When the keyframes of this video are reverse searched, it is found that this video was shared earlier with a different claim. And matching images from this video are posted in the ‘Dailymail’ article dated 13, May 2022 mentioning it as footage from Bangladesh.

The original videos and images are posted by several news media outlets including ‘ANI’ and can be viewed here, here and here. Do not fall prey to fake news. Please do not blindly share anything on social media without giving it a thought.

Conclusion

Though it is true that the candidates struggled a lot in reaching the exam centres due to the massive crowd, the videos shared claiming to be from the recent travel to UP exam centres are old and irrelevant.
