Pakistan PM’s tweet congratulating Congress for its victory in the Karnataka elections is fake.
International leaders congratulating Congress.
Karnataka state assembly election was held on May 10 and the voting was counted on May 13. Congress won the state election with 135 seats. Meanwhile, an image claiming to be the screenshot of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s tweet congratulating Congress for the victory is shared mentioning that international leaders are congratulating Congress.
The tweet in the image reads “I would like to heartily thank the people of Karnataka for electing Congress, I hope that Congress along with our SDPI will work for the strengthening of Islam in India and the sovereignty of Karnataka!” Some of the tweets with the image can be seen here and here.

What is the truth?
When skimming through the Twitter page of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, we found no such tweet congratulating Congress as claimed in the viral posts. The viral image mentions the tweet date as 13, May 2023. When searching for the tweets on that particular date on Shehbaz Sharif’s profile, we found a total of three tweets but nothing related to the Karnataka elections or Congress.
We used Social Blade, a social media analytics tool to track the number of tweets posted by Shehbaz Sharif on May 13 to know if he has deleted any tweet posted on the mentioned date apart from the existing 3 tweets. The Twitter statistics summary for Shehbaz Sharif’s profile showed only 3 tweets on May 13. And all three tweets can be seen in his profile and are not deleted. Hence the viral image is fake.
Earlier, another image claiming to be a screenshot of Shehbaz Sharif’s tweet that reads “I would like to request the people of Karnataka to heartily vote for Congress, because only Congress can reactivate PFI to strengthen Islam in Karnataka and to fulfill the dream of conquering India by 2047” was shared. This is also a fake tweet as Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif has not tweeted anything as mentioned in this post.
