In the image, Amit Shah appears to not respond or notice Justice Chandrachud’s greeting. This image is being shared with the intention of ridiculing CJI Chandrachud, criticizing his culture and the state of the Supreme Court CJI. Various posts with mocking captions featuring the image can be seen here, here and here.

What is the truth?

After reviewing the comments section of the viral posts, it has come to our attention that several comments argue that Amit Shah did greet Justice Chandrachud. One particular comment made by user Pankaj Rai includes a screenshot of an ANI post showing Amit Shah making the ‘Namaste’ gesture.

The translated comment states, “This is the true characteristic of Congressmen, always hiding the truth. Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted CJI, but the person claiming to be a true journalist uploaded the photo when CJI was greeting Amit Shah’s wife.”

Upon further investigation on ANI’s X page, we discovered a video related to the viral image. The video’s caption confirms that CJI DY Chandrachud and Union Home Minister Amit Shah exchanged greetings at the Red Fort during Independence Day celebrations.

Within the 10-second video, Amit Shah can be seen greeting Chandrachud at around the 4-second mark. The viral image is a screengrab of this video and the same can be seen at around the 7-second mark when Chandrachud is greeting Amit Shah’s wife.

The same video clip is also found uploaded on ANI Youtube channel.

Conclusion

A closer examination of the video posted by ANI reveals that CJI DY Chandrachud and Union Home Minister Amit Shah did exchange greetings at the Red Fort during Independence Day celebrations. The viral image is a screengrab of the video and is circulated with misleading claims.
