What’s the truth ?

The video that is being shared on social media is from September 4, 2022, and this was taken during the ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The full, unedited video is published on the “Indian National Congress” YouTube page.

In the original video, we can see Rahul Gandhi comparing the prices of various items between 2014 and 2022. At around 1 Hour 52 Minutes mark, as Rahul Gandhi was talking, he listed out,

“In 2014, a cylinder was Rs.410. Now it is Rs.1050.

Petrol was Rs.70 per litre. Now it is Rs.100 per litre.

Diesel was Rs.55 per litre. Now Rs.90 per litre.

Mustard Oil was Rs.90 per litre. Now it is Rs.200 per litre.

Milk was Rs.35 per litre. Now it is Rs.60 per litre.

Wheat (Atta) was Rs.22 per litre. Now it is Rs.40 per litre.”

As Rahul Gandhi was listing out various items that are quantified in litres while mentioning wheat he accidentally used litre as its quantifier. Immediately Rahul Gandhi realised that he misspoke, he termed it “Kg” (kilogram) and corrected himself. But the video is cut precisely the moment before he could rectify himself and is being shared with a claim that Rahul Gandhi does not even know the unit of measurement for wheat.

Conclusion

The video circulating on social media that Rahul Gandhi does not know the unit of measurement for wheat and he used “Litre” instead of “Kg” is misleading.

The video was taken during the ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on September 4, 2022. As Rahul Gandhi was pointing out a list of various essential items that have shot up in price now as compared to 2014, he had a slip of the tongue and use ‘Litre’ to quantify wheat. He immediately corrected himself and used ‘Kg’. But the video is edited excluding the point where the correction was made and is being used to mislead people that Rahul used Litre as a unit of measurement for wheat.
