Rahul Gandhi in Rajasthan – Kanahiya Lal’s murderers were misguided, they should be forgiven
The election battle is going on in Rajasthan between Indian National Congress (INC) and Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). After three states polling is over now Rajasthan State Assembly Legislative election is going to be held on 25th November, 2023. During election time we can see a lot of fake and misleading news.
In June 2022, a tailor named Kanhaiya Lal was beheaded in Rajasthan’s Udaipur by Riyaz Attari and Gaus Mohammed for a social media post backing Nupur Sharma. Both Congress and BJP parties attacked each other with words over Kanhaiya Lal murder case during their campaigns amidst elections.
@RahulGandhi pic.twitter.com/TbijWK0CKW

Meanwhile, a viral post purporting Rahul Gandhi stated that Kanhaiya lal murderers were misguided and should be forgiven. This viral claim was posted on 23 November, 2023 in X handle which has been viewed by 384.4k. The same post shared by BJP supporters can be seen here, here, here, here and here.
What is the truth?
We ran a keyword search and found Rahul Gandhi’s original byte video was posted on News18 Kerala YouTube Channel on 2 July, 2022. This was reported by The Indian Express, TOI, The Hindu, Business Standard, NDTV, The Wire and many media outlets.
According to the articles, Rahul Gandhi’s Kerala office was vandalised on 24, June 2022 by Student Federation of India (SFI) activists because he was so silent on the issue of buffer zone around protected forests.
#WATCH | Kerala: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's office in Wayanad vandalised.
Indian Youth Congress, in a tweet, alleges that "the goons held the flags of SFI" as they climbed the wall of Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad office and vandalised it. pic.twitter.com/GoCBdeHAwy

In the byte, Rahul Gandhi talked about the vandalisation of his Kerala office in Wayanad. In this video, Rahul said “everywhere in the country …you see the idea..that violence will resolve problems but violence never resolves the problems. However, the children who did..it is not a good thing to do… they acted in an irresponsible way but I don’t have any anger and hostility towards them…. They have done a silly thing.. They are kids who don’t know about the consequences of these types of things. We should forgive them fast as a concern.”
In this whole interview nowhere Rahul Gandhi says to forgive Kanhaiya Lal’s murderers.
In a viral video, Rahul Gandhi forgave the SFI students. Nowhere does he say anything related to the murderer of Kanhaiya Lal. The viral video was shared in a false narrative by BJP supporters.
