Explanation

General elections in India are scheduled to occur in seven phases between April 19, 2024, and June 1, 2024. The results of the vote-counting procedure will be released to the public on June 4, 2024. The Lok Sabha election’s first four rounds are already finished. The two major parties are undertaking a vigorous campaign for the current election phase.

Here, we see a 56-second clip of Rahul Gandhi, the head of the Congress, speaking to the crowd during a rally. We hear him saying, “Narendra Modi will remain the Prime Minister of India. Whatever hard work had to be done, we have done it.” Then, Gandhi went on to add, “written guaranteeing” that Modi would become Prime Minister of India, asserting that the opposition INDIA coalition would not win a single state in Uttar Pradesh. This post is shared with a claim stating, “Today’s breaking news… A big leader of Congress, a big, very big leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi has made a big prophecy in a public meeting. On the coming 4th of June…!! Listen to it yourself! Why should I tell you… And yes, some jealous sycophants will say it! Devotees have edited it.” You can view a similar claim post here.

What’s the truth?

We began our study by searching Google with pertinent keywords and viral keyframes. This directed us to an Indian National Congress YouTube video that captured the entire May 10, 2024, event live. “Shri Rahul Gandhi addresses the public in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh” is the title of the video.

In the video, we can see and hear Rahul Gandhi addressing the public. While listening to the video we found the viral portion after the timestamp of 46 minutes and 4 seconds. Here we can hear him speaking, “On June 4, 2024, Narendra Modi will no longer be the Prime Minister of India. You take it in writing. Narendra Modi ji cannot become the Prime Minister of India. Whatever we had to do. Whatever work and hard work had to be done, we have done it. Our alliance is not going to get less than 50 seats in Uttar Pradesh. And in the rest of the country, we have stopped BJP in every state. These media people, who belong to Adani, will not tell the truth. These are our brothers, we love them. But these poor people have to take a salary, hence they cannot write the truth. They have to raise children. But if you see their faces now, they are also smiling, because they also understand that what Rahul Gandhi is saying is true, and Narendra Modi is not going to become the Prime Minister. End story. Like we say in English, goodbye, thank you.”

Moreover, a tweet from Congress refuting the allegations is also found. For the reader’s understanding, they have included the original video as truth and the viral as falsehoods side by side in the tweet.

The post is captioned “The sinking BJP and Narendra Modi’s fake news factory now have to rely only on fake videos. As per his habit, he edited Rahul Gandhi’s speech and made a fake video and was then caught red-handed. You can see it yourself.”

In a similar vein, publications from Indian Express and Times of India also covered the Uttar Pradesh incident in which Rahul Gandhi had stated that Prime Minister Modi would not be elected in 2024.

All of this data demonstrates that the widely shared video purporting to depict Rahul Gandhi predicting that Prime Minister Modi will take office in 2024 has been doctored and disseminated with misleading information.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral claim of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asserting PM Modi will remain in power in 2024 video is digitally altered. Actually, he said the exact opposite.
