Rahul Gandhi’s unity and divide speech about Congress and BJP is an edited and clipped video!

I had said that Rahul Gandhi ji is our star campaigner and this alone is enough to make BJP win. So there is no need to divide based on caste and religion, this time it will cross 400.

Rahul Gandhi is embarking on a road trip known as the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY), which started in Manipur on January 14 and is scheduled to end in Mumbai on March 20 which has been planned as hybrid yatra of walking, going in open jeeps and vehicles as opposed to only walking in the earlier version of the yatra ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

In this case, a 17-second viral clip featuring Rahul Gandhi saying that “the BJP is working together for the unity of people when the Congress party is dividing the people based on religion and caste” is circulated online. You can view related posts with similar claims here and here.

What’s the truth?

In our search comprising of keywords and keyframes, we found the fuller version of the video uploaded by the official YouTube Channel of Rahul Gandhi. The video was live streamed with the title suggesting that it was taken during the yatra’s Dholpur to Morena stretch which are border towns in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh respectively.

The 44-minute video features Rahul Gandhi’s speech at a public gathering in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, on March 2, 2024, during the flag-handover ceremony for the “Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra.” Around the 21st minute of the video (timestamp 20:29 to 20:51) Rahul Gandhi stated that members of the BJP are dividing people based on religion, caste, and region; whereas, the Congress party is trying to unite the people”.

The same video can be found on Indian National Congress’ Facebook page and YouTube Channel.

This clip has been clipped and edited to make it appear that Rahul Gandhi was accusing Congress of creating divides in the country based on religion, caste and region and BJP is working for the unity of the country.

There have been many such edited videos of Rahul Gandhi in the past as well which were spread in social media, some of it coming directly from the National Head for BJP’s IT wing, Amit Malviya. Here’s a list of such attempts that YouTurn had fact checked in the past.

The widely shared video featuring Rahul Gandhi supposedly stating that the BJP is promoting national unity while the Congress party is dividing people along religious and caste lines is fake. It is clipped and edited to make false claims. In reality, he said the exact opposite, applauding the Congress for its unity and denouncing the BJP for its ‘divide-and-rule’ politics.
