Not Rajasthan, but BJP-ruled UP stays at the bottom in providing tap water supply to households

Claim

The Congress government never cared about the interests of the people. Under the Central Government’s JalJeevanMission scheme, BJP ruled states are meeting 100% target in providing water from tap to every household and Rajasthan is at the bottom. Chief Minister, why this injustice to the people of Rajasthan?

Explanation

BJP MP Rajyavardhan Rathore tweeted on 18, October 2022 that under Jal Jeevan scheme BJP ruled states are meeting 100% target in providing tap water to households where Rajasthan stays at the bottom.

What is the truth ?

When searching the Jal Jeevan website, it is revealed that Rajasthan is not the state that stays at the bottom but BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. Lakshadweep seem to be at the bottom of the list which is a union territory and next stays Uttar Pradesh with 20.10% of households with tap water supply. 28.61% of households in Rajasthan are with tap water supply as per the report.

When it is clear that Rajasthan is not at the bottom of tap water supplying states but BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, we next searched for households of BJP ruled states with water supply as the Minister claimed that BJP ruled states are meeting 100% target. It is found in the same report that Gujarat and Haryana are the BJP-ruled states that have 100% households with tap water supply.

The report also gives the number of households that are yet to be provided with tap water supply. 2,59,12,834 households in UP were listed pending as on 15, August 2019 and has given tap water supply to 18.51% of the mentioned number of households as on 9, November 2022. Rajasthan has provided tap water supply to 19.70% of 94,00,048 households mentioned in 2019.

Remaining 81.49% households are still without tap water supply in UP. Meanwhile, Yogi Adityanath, CM of Uttar Pradesh while addressing at ‘India Water Week’, said, Bundelkhand and Vindhya region will receive tap water supply by December 2022 as a part of Jal Jeevan mission.

Conclusion

BJP MP Rajyavarthan Rathore’s claim that Rajasthan stays at the bottom of the list when tap water supply to households in Jal Jeevan scheme is considered, is fake. BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh stays at the bottom of the list mentioned by him. In addition, not all BJP-ruled states have reached 100% target in providing tap water supply to their respective households.
