Explanation

Indian business tycoon and philanthropist Ratan N Tata is the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group. 86-year-old Ratan Tata has a net worth of 3,800 crore and holds the 421st position on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2023.

Meanwhile, a viral post is purporting on Instagram that Ratan Tata has provided bullet-proof jackets and bomb-proof buses to the Indian Army. Similar claim can be seen on many social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, ShareChat, YouTube and many others.

What is the truth?

We ran a keyword search and we did not find any information to confirm that this viral post was true. Then we also searched Ratan Tata X handle and his Instagram account but we did not find any such announcements from him.

Then we ran a reverse image search of the bus picture and then we found the original bus image posted on the official account of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on 7, September 2017 and the caption reads “Armored Bus and Bhabha Kavach, light weight BP jacket manufactured under #MakeInIndia by MIDHANI handed over to DG CRPF today.”

The same was also reported by The New Indian Express on 3, March 2017 that CRPF will get bullet-proof buses for troops. NDTV also reported on this announcement.

However, Tata Advanced System Limited provided indigenous armed vehicles to the Indian Army, and the same was reported by many media outlets, such as the Economic Times, Hindustan Times and Times Now.

The claim that Ratan Tata provided bomb-proof buses and bullet-proof jackets is false. But TASL provided Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles to the Indian Army in July 2022.

Conclusion

It is found that Ratan Tata did not provide any bullet-proof jackets or bomb-proof buses as claimed on social media platforms, but TASL provided quick-reaction fighting vehicles in 2022.
