Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman speaks comparing the funds allotted to construct a memorial for Karunanidhi and to construct houses for Eelam Tamils.

On 5th September in V.O.Chidambaranar’s 150th birthday celebration, Seeman said to reporters, “The government has announced 39 crore rupees to construct a memorial for Kalignar Karunanidhi. Whose money is that? But only 5 crores was allotted for the construction of houses for Eelam Tamils”.

What is the Truth?

M.K.Stalin leading Tamil Nadu government has announced 39 crore rupees to build a memorial for Karunanidhi. This has created outrage among the public and political parties. During the last regime, the ADMK government too has done the same to build Jayalalitha’s memorial just like this DMK government is planning for Karunanidhi’s memorial. It is erroneous to build memorials for former Chief Ministers with the tax money of the public.

But 5 crore rupees for the construction of houses for Eelam Tamils as claimed by Seeman is incorrect.

27th August 2021 dated BBC article reported, “The Tamil Nadu CM has released several announcements for Eelam Tamils under Rule no.110 in the assembly.

1. Most dilapidated 7,469 houses in the camps will be rebuilt for 231 crores 54 lakh rupees. 108.81 crores rupees will be allotted in the current financial year to initiate the first phase of works for 3,150 houses.
2. 30 crores will be allotted to improve the basic facilities of the camps including electricity, toilet facilities and drinking water facilities. Apart from this, 5 crores will be allotted as Srilankan Tamils Lives Improvement Scheme to develop the mentioned facilities every year”.

The package covered 10 more announcements including education apart from the construction of houses for Eelam Tamils in the camps. The CM Stalin has announced a package of 317 crores in the assembly for the welfare of Srilankan Tamils.

Similarly, another fake news claiming that 39 crores is allotted for the Karunanidhi memorial but only 32 crores was allotted for school education was circulated earlier.
