Rail fare concession comes into effect again. 40 per cent concession for men above 60 years of age and 50 per cent for women above 58 years of age.
Indian Railways has announced the resumption of train fare concessions for senior citizens from July 1, says a Kumudam news card and social media posts.
What is the truth?
In March 2020 the concession on train fares for senior citizens was discontinued during the Corona outbreak. As a result, the railway sector has earned an additional Rs 1,500 crore, according to RTI data.
Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on May 20, 2022, has said that the concession given to senior citizens on train fares is unlikely to come back.

“A fake media report is claiming that the Indian Railways will resume concessions for senior citizens from July 1, 2022. No such announcement has been made by the ministry”, the PIB tweeted.
Kumudam has published the news that the government has denied the rumours that the train fare concession will be implemented for the elderly again from July 1. But, the old rumour has not been deleted yet.
Rumour has it that the train fare concession is coming into effect again. It is false that concession of 40 per cent for men over the age of 60 and 50 per cent for women over the age of 58 are offered.
