Explanation

The 2-minute, 19-second video that is shared shows two girls pleasing someone who is standing across from them. One girl can be seen wearing a burqa in the video, while the other girl is dressed in a rose-colored churidar. As they converse with the person in front of them, they both appear anxious and teary-eyed. This video was filmed in such a way that these two girls are visible but we are not able to see the person to whom they are speaking.

This post is shared with a claim stating, “Hindus, wake up! This video is from Karnataka!! What’s the truth?

We started our analysis with the pertinent keyword search on Google which led to some articles dated back to 2021.

According to the New Indian Express, “The girls who are 1st PU students of Sacred Heart’s School in Shanivarsanthe were ambushed by over 40 people.” The father of one of the girls said that his daughter and her friend were physically assaulted by boys from the Sangh Pariwar. He further said that his daughter and her friend were waiting for a Christian girl to return the burqa in the evening that she gave her earlier. He added, “However, while the burqa was being returned, my daughter and her friend were attacked by over 40 goons.” He said that the girls were locked up, beaten, abused, and assaulted and were later admitted to Kodalipet Hospital.

The families said that Madan and Tanmay from Shanivarsanthe alongside 40 others attacked the girls and were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the accused have released a video on social media ‘policing’ the girls for handing over the burqa to a non-Muslim girl.

When we intensified our search, it led us to another article by a Kannada news outlet namely, Nikharika News which carried the screengrabs from the viral video. This article also addressed the same issue faced by the girls.

According to the reports, “The incident took place on the evening of Thursday, November 18, 2021, at KRC Circle in Shanivarshante. Now the police have registered a case against the accused under the Posco Act and it is reported that the police have arrested two people in connection with the case.”

It is evident from all of this information that the video is an outdated 2021 schoolgirl clip that was shared on social media to incite people under the fictitious banner of “Love Jihad.”

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral video showing two girls in a teary-eyed incident is old and from 2021. Also, this video was released on social media by the accused with a moral policing angle to create more confusion among people.
