Explanation

India will hold seven rounds of general elections between April 19, 2024, and June 1, 2024. On June 4, 2024, the results will be released to the public following the vote-counting procedure. The Lok Sabha election’s first three stages are now complete. Both political parties are waging fierce, consecutive campaigns.

In this case, a letter from the Association of Sunni Muslims is in circulation all over the internet. This is shared with a claim stating, “Sunni Muslims Dubai to reimburse flight tickets, etc for Karnataka Muslims to fly in and vote for Congress. Secularism & Baichara.” You can view similar claim posts here and here.

What’s the truth?

We began our investigation by looking up for the association as mentioned in the viral post. But we found no such organisation in Dubai. Further, we checked the address seen on the letter. This brought us to the website of the Pakistani consulate in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Upon perusing the webpage, we discovered that the address on the widely circulated letter corresponds precisely with the contact information provided here.

We looked over their website and couldn’t find any news or statements regarding the Indian elections that were posted there. Moreover, no media reports are indicating that such an announcement has been made.

For the reader’s convenience, we have also included an image below that compares the original address on the website with the viral letter address.

Using this as a hint, we looked up the address on Google Maps, which also displays the location of the Pakistani Consulate General in Dubai.

All of this demonstrates that the address provided in the widely circulated letter is the Consulate of Pakistan in Dubai, not the Sunni Muslim Association, as the allegation purports. Furthermore, no information regarding the association indicated in the letter could be found despite our searches. This indicates that the letter has been altered digitally.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the widely circulated letter claiming that Dubai will pay for travel tickets so that Karnataka Muslims could cast their votes for Congress is untrue.  The viral letter that is circulating is, in fact, a hoax.
