What’s the truth?

Using all of the viral video’s keyframes as a starting point, we conducted our analysis and found the video that was uploaded to Facebook.

The video was posted by user Amos Kurup on January 2, 2024, with the caption “Thomas Alva Edison and hashtags like DMK, and New Year party.” This same video also accompanied the same song in the background.

The person in the video is identified as Thomas Alva Edison, Keelayur DMK Union Secretary. He is also seen clarifying regarding the viral video on his Facebook page. He is heard saying that the video is from New Year 2024 when he distributed calendars and sweets to the people in Velankanni. He further mentioned that he has been doing this for the last 15 years.

This information confirms and clarifies that the viral video was shot during New Year and has nothing to do with the ongoing election campaign.

In conclusion, the widely circulated rumor that the individual giving out cash to voters ahead of the election is untrue and misleading. The video is from January 2024, around New Year’s time.
