The UP two-child policy is still in draft form from 2021 and hasn’t been put into effect yet!

The UP government wrote the bill in 2021 and solicited public input, but it hasn't been implemented yet.

What’s the truth?

We started our analysis with a relevant keyword search like “UP government two-child policy” on Google. This led us to an article by the Business Standard dated July 10, 2021. The report is titled “No govt job, subsidy if over two children: UP population control draft bill.”

According to the article, there is a draft population control bill posted on the UP Law Commission website, which prohibits those with more than two children from pursuing government jobs, participating in local body polls, or receiving any kind of subsidy.

The story continued by adding that the draft bill prohibits people from receiving promotions in government posts and invites public suggestions until July 19.

We took this as a cue and further used the reverse image process on the available viral keyframes of the news clip. This led us to the original footage from Republic Bharat dated July 11, 2021. After closely examining the entire video, we realized that the anchor was discussing the draft rather than the bill’s actual implementation.

Moreover, we got another article from ABP News covering the same issue dated on September 22, 2021. As per the article, “On the question of bringing a population control ordinance before the assembly elections, Yogi said, “There is a time for everything. Whatever happens, we will do it with a bang.”

It is evident from all of this material that UP has not yet put the two-child policy into force. Although the bill was drafted in 2021, it has not yet been put into action.

Conclusion:

We therefore conclude that the widely circulated rumor that Yogi Ji eliminated all government benefits and subsidies for any family with more than two children is false. Since the Assembly never took up the bill, it remains in draft form despite requests for public input in 2021.
