Two or three men are seen dragging a young girl through a house entrance door in the 40-second viral video. They raise her legs into the air and strike her severely in the sole of her foot with a stick held in their hands. They continue beating the girl even after she screams in pain. This post is shared with a claim stating, “Girls are being worshipped in Yogi’s rule. 8 year old girl from Dalit community being beaten and tortured by Thakurs for drinking water from temple without permission! What’s the truth?
We started our analysis with relevant keywords and the keyframes of the viral video which led us to some articles dated 2021.
The NDTV article was titled as “Dalit Girl Tortured By A Family, Accused Of Theft In Amethi Shocker” and published on December 29, 2021. The article also carried the viral video in it.
According to the article, the police have filed a complaint and made an arrest after a horrifying viral video showed a man in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, savagely beating a Dalit young girl. The article went on to add that, in the video, the teenage girl is restrained to the ground by two men, while a third uses a stick to strike the soles of her feet. Three of the women in the video can be heard interrogating the girl after she was allegedly accused of stealing. The blows continue despite she cries of pain. In a horrifying display of aggression, the man striking the girl once pulled her to the ground, grabbed her by the hair, and shook her.
When we intensified the search we found a tweet by the Amethi Police under the viral claim. The post read as “The viral video in question is from the year 2021, in relation to which a case was registered at Amethi police station under relevant sections and all the three accused involved in the assault were arrested and sent to jail. Please do not spread misleading news.”

All of this data confirms and verifies that the viral clip is not new, as the tweet claims, but rather old, from 2021.
Conclusion:
We conclude that the widely circulated rumour that an 8-year-old Dalit girl was being beaten and subjected to torture by Thakurs for obtaining water from a temple without authorization is false and misleading. Actually, the news is from 2021, and the girl is being beaten for stealing, not because she is drinking water.
