Explanation

India and Pakistan played against each other in the ongoing Asia Cup Cricket tournament. In the Super 4 match between the two teams, Pakistan won by 5 wickets. A video is being spread by some in social media claiming that it is from Srinagar and accuses that Pakistan’s victory was celebrated in India.

What’s the truth ?

When we took the key frames of the video and searched the origins, the oldest source we were able to find was from August 2020. It was uploaded with a claim that some in Srinagar celebrated Pakistan’s 73rd Independence Day.

This shows that this particular video is not new and this has been around for at least more than a year and we were not able to verify the specific origin or when it was taken. However, Srinagar Police has tweeted in their official twitter handle that this video has been around for more than half a decade and warned people not to spread fake news along with reassuring that no such incident of celebrating Pakistan’s victory happened in Srinagar.

Its important to note that similar claims were made in previous occasions when India and Pakistan played against each other and Pakistan ended up on the winning side.

Also, Group A match between India and Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup tournament took place on 28th August 2022. During that time, a fake story was spread in social media that Home Minister of India Amit Shah’s son Jai Shah posed along with Pakistan Army General’s son, about which we have already posted a fact-check.

Conclusion

We found that no such celebration for Pakistan’s victory over India in a Cricket Match on 4th August 2022 took place in Srinagar. This video is wrongly shared in social media with such claims.
