What’s the truth?

Upon scrutinizing the widely shared video, we discovered that several users had identified the man as a well-known Instagram prankster. After searching for his account on Instagram using certain keywords, we discovered that Danny Derix, a Dutch content creator, was the owner. Looking through Derix’s profile, we discovered similar videos that featured the same attire. The viral video was captioned in Dutch which is roughly translated as “You can also go too far.. @albertheijn.” This video was uploaded on 14 December 2023.

We also found more similar videos on his Instagram page, which further illustrates his peculiar habit of urinating everywhere. View some examples here, here, and here.

On December 20, he posted a reel to his Instagram handle with a Dutch caption that read, “I fooled the whole world.. entire video is now online on YouTube link bio.”

Using this as a hint, we located his YouTube channel and watched him post an explanation about the widely shared video. On December 20, 2023, the video with the title “I fooled the whole world” was shared.

At the beginning of the video, Derix responds to the viral claim, saying that it was a “prank to play a trick on the world.” He also added that he wanted “to show everything can be fake on the internet. We want to make it clear to people how easy it is to spread fake news.”

He continued by explaining how he included the sound of urination without actually doing it. “It’s literally a sound effect that I recorded in my toilet with some plastic, recorded with my iPhone. I took the sound and added it to the original video that we recorded in the Albert Heijn,” he said.

Danny continued, that the video went viral to the point where far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders reposted it along with an erroneous communal assertion.

As all of the aforementioned information makes clear, the viral video is being disseminated with fake communal spin.

We, therefore, conclude that the widely circulated rumor that a Muslim immigrant in Holland urinates in the supermarket’s pork section is wholly untrue. The widely shared video is a prank made by a Dutch person.
