Explanation

Two young men are seen walking down a street in the shared 59-second video. A man wearing a grey hoodie appears to be walking with a large knife in his hand after another young man in a black outfit who is crossing the street. He takes off his shirt and gets a weapon from a truck nearby then proceeds to confront the man who is attacking with the long knife, we observe the other man bleeding in the vicinity of his neck. A third individual can be seen approaching and kicking the man who is lying on the road as they both get into a brawl and roll down the road. Here is where the video ends, and we can hear some people screaming in the nearby houses. We were unable to see anyone else in the footage, though.

What’s the truth?

Using pertinent Google searches, such as “Two men attacking with knives in daylight” and “Two young boys fighting with long knives on the street,” we launched our investigation. Additionally, we performed a basic reverse image search on Google using the keyframes from the widespread video. This directed us to a May 10, 2021, Mail Online piece. With the headline “Horrific moment two bloodied men attack each other with machetes in front of shocked families on a residential street in Lancashire,” the article included the same viral footage.

According to the article, a horrifying video of two men brutally cutting each other with machetes on a Lancashire residential street has surfaced on social media.
One man had sustained head injuries, and the other had been stabbed in the arm, chest, and back. They have both been admitted to the hospital for care.

We took this as a cue and discovered another Daily Star UK story that included the widely shared screenshots from the video. The story “Bloodsoaked Men Armed with Huge Machetes Fight on Street in Broad Daylight” was published on May 11, 2021.

According to the story, one man was using an eighteen-inch zombie knife, while the other retaliated with a machete. Two men, ages 31 and 26, have been taken into custody for assault concerning the altercation, according to Lancashire Police.

A follow-up search revealed that, by a Lancashire Telegraph UK report dated April 13, 2022, the two guys who were apprehended had been imprisoned. According to the article, David Jowett and Johnny Reid were charged with assault.

Reid, 32, of Bartholomew Road, Morecambe, was found guilty after a trial of injuring and threatening with a bladed article. He was sentenced to two years in prison. Jowett, 27, of Morecambe’s Lynden Avenue, was sentenced to 25 months in prison after admitting to stabbing and threatening people with a sharp object.

All of this material makes it clear that contrary to what the widely circulated rumor implies, the two guys engaged in the fight are not Muslim immigrants.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral claim stating that in England, a Muslim refugee stabs a citizen with a sword is false and misleading.
