The impact of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India has not yet decreased. Meanwhile, signs and alerts of a third wave are emerging. In this case, news spread as that “the Union Government is providing financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakhs to the families of the deceased corona patients”

Fact Check:

According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, a deposit of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to children who have recently lost their parents due to corona. A monthly stipend will be paid from the deposit fund and the full amount will be paid at the age of 23. Similarly, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a deposit of Rs 5 lakh for children who lost their parents due to corona.

However, there is no official information that Rs 4 lakh will be provided under the SDRF to the families of the corona victims. The official PIB Twitter page of the government has said that the information spread like this is a rumour.

When we further searched about the viral form… In March 2020, The Print, Business Line and other news outlets reported that the Home Ministry had announced that Government would pay Rs 4 lakh compensation to the families of those who died due to the corona.
