When the social media users questioned the authenticity of the post, Median released another clarification post , where it states , “ Two days ago a Median poster was released. In it we had revealed that Yogi Adityanath had increased the number of medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh from 12 to 48 after taking office. Although the news is 100% true, it has been revealed that the photo of the hospital used in it is incorrect. We apologize for the inconvenience caused on behalf of the brother who designed the poster. As we are not Dravidian Stocks, it is not our intention to make a mistake.”
Number of Medical Colleges in Uttar Pradesh:
“After Yogi Adityanath took over as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, the number of medical colleges increased from 12 to 48 in four years.” is the message carried over through the Median news card.
But, according to a state-wise report submitted in the Lok Sabha in March 2017 regarding the number of medical colleges in India , there were a total of 45 medical colleges, including 16 government medical colleges and 29 private medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh before Yogi Adityanath took charge. In addition, applications from 11 colleges are said to be pending for Union government approval. Even if we look at government medical colleges, there are 16 colleges already.
According to information provided in the Lok Sabha in February 2021, there are a total of 57 medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, including 26 government medical colleges and 31 private medical colleges. If you look at the government colleges, 10 colleges have risen. They are planning to set up one medical college for each of the 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh.
According to an RTI report received by Ravi Kumar in May 2021, the Union government has approved the setting up of several medical colleges in the states under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). Under this plan, Uttar Pradesh will get the largest number of medical colleges. There will be 27 medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, 23 in Rajasthan, 14 in Madhya Pradesh, 11 each in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
These colleges will be affiliated with government recommended hospitals and will be constructed in the districts where the medical colleges were not available before. Under the scheme, the Union government will bear 60 percent of the cost of new medical colleges, ”the New Indian Express reported.
A spokesman of the Department of Medical Education has said in a news report that Prime Minister Modi will open nine new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh in July 2021.
Conclusion :
In our search, it is clear that the facebook post has used the photo of Kamatchi Memorial Hospital located in Pallikaranai area of Chennai, Tamil Nadu for the information shared regarding the Medical College in Uttar Pradesh and CM Adityanath’s achievement.
Second, it is a misinformation to say that there were only 12 medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh before Yogi Adityanath took over as the Chief Minister. As of March 2017, there were 16 government medical colleges. As of February 2021, there were 26 government medical colleges. So, it is contradictory to say that in four years it has risen from 12 medical colleges to 48.
