Explanation

In the viral 21 second video we see ships passing through the see and there’s a watermark ‘TRT NEWS’ written on the the top right of the video. The video also carries the message on it saying that, “USS aircraft carriers safely reach Israel. Ship has 5 f-16 fighter jets on it.”

This same the viral video is shared by so amny social media users with simila claims can be seen here, here, here, and here. Come, let’s check the authenticity of this viral claim.

What’s the truth?

When we started our research using the keyframes of the viral video it led us to a YouTube channel namely ‘The Independent’ which uploaded the video on 1 December 2022 titled ‘US Navy ships narrowly avoid head on collision in San Diego Bay.’ According to the 1 minute 31 second video’s description box, “Two US Navy warships were forced to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a head-on collision in San Diego Bay on Tuesday. Video captured by San Diego Webcam shows the guided-missile destroyer Momsen entering the harbour as the dock landing ship Harper’s Ferry exits. The ships appear to be moving directly towards each other before the Momsen makes a hard turn to the left to avoid the larger ship.”

This clearly proves that the viral video is old and has no connection to the ongoing Hamas Israel war.

Moreover, we also got a similar article published by the ‘abc News’ with a heading “Navy warships narrowly avoid colliding in San Diego Bay” published on 1 December 2022. The report says that, ‘The incident occurred in a somewhat narrow part of the channel that requires constant turns, according to the Navy official. The commanders of both ships agreed in advance to traverse the channel simultaneously and pass by in opposite directions. But although the ships were in communication from the beginning, they ended up sailing head-on at each other.’

Likewise, we also got another lengthy version of the whole video from the YouTube channel namely ‘San deigo Web cam’ with a caption ‘Warship Chicken – More Context’ uploaded on 1 December 2022. This video is totally 32 minutes and 53 seconds. And it is from this full video the viral portion is taken and circulated with false narratives.

Thus from the above all evidence it is perfectly clear that the viral video is a US navy ship which escaped narrowly from a collision in the San Deigo bay and this has no relations to the current Israel and Hamas issue.

Conclusion:

Therefore, we conclude that the viral video is false and circulated with misleading claims. In reality the video is from 2022 and shows the San Deigo bay not the Israel west coast.
