Explanation

On January 22, 2024, the Ram temple in Ayodhya was inaugurated with great festivities. The doors of the Ram temple opened to the general public on Tuesday, a day after the consecration of the new Ram Lalla idol. The grand event saw the presence of around 7,000 VVIPs from across the nation, including actors, sportspersons, industrialists, politicians, etc.

In this case, a 14-second video of people digging through loads of cash from a temple is circulating on social media. The viral post claimed, “So much money was donated in the donation box on the first day that the donation box was filled within half a day.” Some users even added “The first day “Daan” by Ram Bhakt in #RamMandir at Ayodhya Dham is so huge that it can run the economy of Pakistan for 1 full year … This money will be used to feed people, to open schools, colleges and hospitals.” You can view related posts with similar claims here and here.

What’s the truth?

When searching for the video, we found a similar visual uploaded by a YouTube channel in 2019 reporting that it is from a temple in Rajasthan. This video also shows people dealing with cash from a similar box, and the same person in the viral video is seen in this video even though the exact visuals did not match in this video.

According to this YouTube video of Rajasthan Patrika, “The two-day fair of the famous Krishna Dham Bhagwan Saawariya Seth started with the opening of the store. In this monthly fair, the temple treasury was opened on Chaturdashi Monday. After Rajbhog Aarti, the temple priest took out the notes from the treasury and started counting in the temple square. During this, temple board staff officers and bank employees participated in the counting.”

Likewise, when we expanded our search, we found another YouTube video that was in the format of shorts. The video was captioned as, “Shri Sanwaliya Seth:- This time a record amount of 12 crores 69 lakh cash donations came out.” This video matches the visuals of the viral video and displays the identical individuals from the viral video. It was uploaded on 19, January 2024, which means a few days before the inauguration of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

All of this implies the widely shared video is not from the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the viral video claiming that the first-day donation by Ram Bhakt in Ram Mandir at Ayodhya Dham is so huge in half a day is completely false. In reality, the video is from Sanwaliya Seth temple located at Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.
