Explanation

A 45-second video purportedly showing a celestial event of the constellation is shared widely on Twitter with the claim that it was captured on 28, March 2023 during the alignment of 5 planets namely Mercury, Venus, Mars, Uranus and Jupiter with Moon. Some of the posts with such a claim can be seen here, here and here. Actor Amitabh Bachchan also shared this video with the same claim.

What is the truth?

When searching with relevant keywords we found that 5 planets – Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, Uranus, and Mars indeed gathered within a small 50-degree sky sector on 28, March 2023. The starwalk.space’ website published an image of the planetary alignment but the alignment looks different from what is seen in the viral video.

The Virtual Telescope Project Youtube channel uploaded the live feed of the online observation of 5 planets on 28, March 2023. The description part reads “These evenings, at sunset, we can spot five planets at a glance: Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter by naked eye, Uranus with modest binoculars. We will be showing all of them live, online.”

The viral video is found uploaded on the ‘Prathamesh Dalavi’ Youtube channel on 26, January 2023 with the title “Venus, Jupiter, Moon after 6:30pm | clear sky”.

The description part of the video reads “Telescope name:- Celestron inspire 100az I have taken help of Al that’s why planets are easily visible.” It is further mentioned that it was not captured using any mobile application.

The ‘about’ section of the channel mentions that scenes from the sky are captured and edited with the help of AI and the scenes are generated with AI and some coding for educational purposes only.

Conclusion

It is found that an old video of celestial objects captured from the sky and edited using AI to make them visible is shared to falsely claim that it is 5 planets alignment captured on March 28.
