What’s the truth?

We began our investigation by looking up relevant keyword searches such as “two men beat a man in Rajasthan with a long stick” and “man beaten up by another when tied to ropes.” This brought us to a Times Now story from May 22, 2024, with the caption, “Man Beaten To Death After Tied Up With Ropes In Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu.”

As per the article, Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Rajarshi Verma said that the event occurred on May 16 in the vicinity of the Surajgarh Police Station. While abusing Rameshwar Valmiki (27), the accused recorded a video.

SP Verma went on to add, “The victim Rameshwar Valmiki was habitual of drinking, and instead of buying liquor from a shop in the village, he was arranging the locally made liquor and consuming that. To threaten him, the accused kidnapped him and one other named Jethuram Nayak took them to a liquor godown, and beat them black and blue. Rameshwar Valmiki also became unconscious so the accused also took him to the hospital where he was declared dead and the accused threw his body outside his residence. The Liquor mafia beat the youth after being abducted and he lost his life in the incident.”

In connection with this case, Deependra alias Chintu, Praveen Kumar alias PK, Subhash alias Chintu, Satish alias Sukh, and Praveen alias Baba have already been taken into custody, along with one juvenile.

The aforementioned details both validate and elucidate that the man being assaulted with long sticks in the viral video was done by the local liquor mafia in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and not linked to caste discrimination, as the assertion implies.

Conclusion:

Thus, we conclude that the widely circulated rumor that the Dalit youth Rameshwar Valmiki was killed because of his caste identity is false and misleading. Actually, there is no communal angle to the incident.
