Explanation

A 33-second video is shared on X (previously Twitter). As we can see in the viral video, a massive crowd is walking, and from that, a few people topple the car because the chariot was coming behind them. This viral video has been viewed by 104.2k, and it has been shared with the claim that a Muslim person refused to move his car aside to make way for the chariot even after several requests, then the devotee toppled and damaged his car.

The same virally claimed video was widely shared by BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) supporters and can be seen here, here, here, and here

What’s the truth?

We ran a reverse search using the keyframes of the viral video, and we found the same viral video visuals posted in a public TV news article titled ‘Devotees topple vehicles, damage them to make way for temple car festival in Mangalore’ dated April 4, 2024. According to this article, during the Bappanadu Durgaparameshwari temple’s Rath (Chariot) Yatra, devotees damaged and removed all vehicles that were in the way of the chariot.

It is also reported that a car, a scooter, and an autorickshaw that were parked on the road where the chariot was pulled by the devotees were overturned by the devotees. Apparently, this was done to give way to the chariot. Since then, videos of this incident have gone viral.

Additionally, we also searched for vehicle number KA05MV1554 on multiple vehicle information sites, and we found that in a few sites the car owner was mentioned as Venkatesh D and in other Divya.

RTO vehicle information showed the vehicle owner as Venkatesh D, whereas Car Info and Car 24 showed the owner as Divya. According to the vehicle information sites, we found no Islamic names

So no communal angle was found; all the devotees toppled and damaged the vehicles on the way while pulling the chariot, as TV9 Kannada reported.

Conclusion

The car was toppled and damaged by devotees to give way to the chariot. And this incident was shared with false communal color given the car is not owned by an Islamic person.
