Australian PM Antony Albanese visited India on 8, March 2023. Video footage of a drone show purportedly showing the drones arranging in an order to create India, the Statue of Unity, Welcome Hon’ble PM and various other such displays is spread widely with the claim that it was captured in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on the Sabarmati riverfront to welcome the PM of Australia. What is the truth?

The Australian PM Antony Albanese on 8, March 2023 tweeted an image of him paying homage to Gandhi’s legacy at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.

When searching with the relevant keywords, the same viral video is found uploaded on 1, October 2022 with the title “Drone show over Sabarmati river ahead of National Games”.

The matching visuals from the viral video are found in video news uploaded by the Hindustan Times Youtube channel on 29, September 2022. This video is titled “Ahead of PM Modi’s two-day Gujarat visit, 600 drones lit up the skies over Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad”. It is mentioned that the drone light show was hosted to mark the opening of the National Games.

PIB reported on 29, September 2023 that PM Narendra Modi declared the 36th National games open at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. “Such careful use of technology, like a drone, will take Gujarat, India to new heights”, Modi recalled the grand drone show that took place in Ahmedabad the previous day. The live video of the National games opening ceremony can be viewed on PMO India Youtube channel.

A tweet posted by DD National Twitter page on 29, September 2022 is found carrying the clip of ‘Welcome Hon’ble PM’ light up by the drones mentioning as from the event of National games opening ceremony. Hence ‘Welcome Hon’ble PM’ displayed during the drone show is to welcome Indian PM Narendra Modi.

Conclusion

It is found that the video of a drone show captured in September 2022 during the opening of the 36th National games is falsely claimed as a recent drone show to welcome Australian PM, Antony Albanese.
