Recently, the right-wing is spreading viral videos on social media claiming that Muslims mix birth control pills in biryani, and urine instead of salt in popcorn. In this case, it is claimed “A new cake made by fanatic jihadists has hit the market. Luppo company put tablets inside the cake to paralyze children, please forward this video to your friends in the Hindu region.”

A 50 second long video shows a person unwrapping the Luppo cake packet and splitting the cake into two halves and revealing the two white pills hidden inside it.

What is the truth?

While analysing the viral video with keyframes through Google reverse image search, it was found that this video has been going viral on social media since 2019. In 2020, the same video was shared with the caption “The Chinese company, luppo, has released a cake, hidden a tablet inside, that causes children to become paralysis. Please share this message across all groups”.

In this regard, when we searched further we came to this detailed video titled “Pills in Turkish Cake” which was published on the Wishe Press YouTube page on October 28, 2019.

While intensifying the research, we found out that a Turkish media outlet Teyit also confirmed that, at 46 seconds into the video, the man spoke in “Sorani,” a Kurdish language which is widely spoken in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Also, by slowing down the video’s playback speed to 0:25 and examining each frame, we could see a small hole in the cake after it was removed from the cover and before it was split in two.

When we investigated further regarding the Luppo cake, we were able to confirm that the cake is manufactured by a Turkisk company brand namely “Solen”.

The Solen company has denied the claim of the viral video and also published the results of the process analysis of its food products on the media page namely Teyit.

Solen company is the biggest company in Iraq and this lupo cake is sold only there. So it is certain that this video was not shot in India. Although the person in the video spoke in the Kurdish language of “Sorani,” we have no evidence of where in Iraq the video was shot.

Conclusion

To conclude, the claims of fanatic jihadis making the cake with lacing pills causing paralysis in children is completely false. Moreover, this purported video is circulating on social media since 2019 with different stories.
