A video showing Amit Shah paying respect to Basavanna with a garland that failed at the end is shared to claim that Amit Shah disrespects Basavanna in Karnataka. Legislative assembly elections are planned to be held in Karnataka on the 10th of this month. What is the truth?
When searching with relevant keywords we found that the video is not recent but old. ANI tweet dated 18, April 2018 is found with matching visuals mentioning that BJP President Amit Shah pays tribute to Basaveshwara (12th-century Lingayat philosopher) in Bangalore.
With further search, the viral video is found tweeted by News 9 on 18, April 2018 mentioning that Amit Shah offered a floral tribute to Basaveshwara on the occasion of Basava Jayanti, however, the garland missed the status. The same video is also found tweeted in April 2018 by other users.

Times of India article reported the incident on 19, April 2018 with the title “BJP chief’s garland misses Basavanna; Yeddyurappa gets it right”. The article mentioned that Amit Shah was put on a crane to garland the 12-foot-tall statue of the Lingayat icon and social reformer, along with state president B S Yeddyurappa.
However, Basavanna remained out of Shah’s reach, prompting him to fling the garland at the statue. The garland, however, slipped off and fell. Yeddyurappa managed to garland Basavanna with a single fling.

It is found that an old video of Amit Shah paying respect to Basavanna with the garland that failed at the end is shared ahead of the Karnataka elections in a context that it is a recent visual.
