On November 12, when the excavation work was being done as part of the Chardham Highway Project (a 4.5-kilometre section of the Yamunotri National Highway) in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi, a landslip trapped 41 people within the tunnel. The workers are expected to be rescued today after 17 days of the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, a 1:45-minute video that purports to show the scene of workers being rescued in Uttarakhand is becoming extremely popular on social media with the claim that the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue mission is successful and that they have rescued all the workers safely.
What is the truth?
When reverse-searching the keyframes of the viral video, we found that the video was not recorded today but was uploaded on 24, November 2023 on the internet. NDTV uploaded the viral video clip with the title “Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue: How Trapped Workers Will Be Pulled Out On Stretchers From Tunnel” on November 24.
The same video is also found posted on The Indian Express Youtube channel with the title “Uttarkashi Tunnel Rescue: NDRF Demonstrates Pipeline Stretcher Rescue for Trapped Workers”. The description part clarifies that as a part of the continuing rescue operations at the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) demonstrated how to move wheeled stretchers through the pipeline. It further states that the demonstration was conducted in preparation for the rescue of 41 workers trapped inside the tunnel.
Earlier, an old and unrelated photo was shared to falsely claim that it depicts an elderly worker trapped in the Adani-owned tunnel. Youturn covered it and published an article on the same.
