Explanation

A photo of Lord Ganesha in standing posture is shared on social media claiming that the world’s tallest Ganesha statue was from Indonesia. Such claims can be seen here, here and here.

What is the truth?

When searching with the keywords from the claim, the ‘Sanskar TV’ Facebook page posted this video captioning it as ‘world’s tallest Ganesha (bronze) statue located at Khlong Kluean, Thailand! It is 39 meters high”. Thailand is a country where majority of the people practice Buddhism.

Further search revealed the official website ‘ganeshthailand’.

It is mentioned that the Chachoengsao Association in the era of Pol Gen Somchai Vanichsenee has built a 39 meters tall bronze statue of lord Ganesh in his standing posture or the “success granted form”. It consisted of 854 pieces of bronze parts. The statue is built on 40,000 square meter land in Klong Keun district, Chachoengsao, to watch over the land and stand in harmony with the local way of living and economy. The construction began in 2008 and was completed in 2012.

Conclusion

It is indeed true that the Ganesha statue is the world’s biggest bronze statue as claimed. However, the statue is not in Indonesia, but in Thailand. And Thailand is not a Muslim country but follows Buddhism.
